Transforming a corporate platform into an interactive, forward-looking experience
The Sempra Energy website redesign was a year long initiative to transform the company’s digital presence and better reflect its leadership in energy infrastructure. The previous site primarily served corporate communications and investor relations, with limited interactivity and visual innovation.
The goal was to create a modern, engaging, and professional platform that balanced investor confidence with a narrative of innovation, environmental responsibility, and community impact. The challenge lay in modernizing the design and experience without losing the site’s corporate credibility or accessibility for key audiences.

Defining Structure and Flow
The redesign began with a comprehensive audit of existing content, stakeholder interviews, and a competitive analysis of other major energy and infrastructure brands. These insights informed a new site architecture that emphasized intuitive navigation and prioritized high value content.
A new sitemap established a clear taxonomy that made it easier for users to find investor resources, sustainability information, and company updates. Wireframes were created to define layout hierarchy and key interactions across templates, helping validate assumptions and align with stakeholder expectations before advancing to visual design.
Establishing the Visual System
High fidelity templates were developed to provide flexibility while maintaining brand consistency across all pages. The homepage was reimagined as an interactive, story driven experience that guided users through Sempra’s initiatives and priorities with seamless scrolling and dynamic content modules.
One of the central features of the redesign was an interactive map that replaced a previously static module. The new map allowed users to explore Sempra’s energy assets across North and South America, offering an engaging view of the company’s diverse operations and renewable projects.
A comprehensive design system was built to maintain the integrity of Sempra’s brand while ensuring scalability and consistency. The site was fully responsive across all screen sizes and compliant with WCAG accessibility standards, supporting inclusive access for a wide range of users.
To bring these interactions to life, I created a prototype that demonstrated the site’s microinteractions and motion behavior. The video showcased how scroll animations, hover states, and layered transitions enhanced engagement and guided users through the experience intuitively.

Delivering a Unified Experience
The redesign transformed Sempra’s website from a static brochure into a dynamic digital platform. A new newsroom provided real time updates and positioned the company as a transparent, future focused leader in energy innovation.
The result was a modern, responsive website that aligned with Sempra’s corporate goals while showcasing its commitment to sustainability, technology, and community. The new system empowered internal teams to manage and scale content with confidence.
The project was met with positive feedback from stakeholders and industry recognition, earning the 2018 Internet Advertising Competition Award for Best Energy Website.
